 | THE NATURE OF YORK VILLAGE: An Evening Walk Location: Meet in front of Town Hall. Many know of the human history of York Village, but what about its Natural History? This 2-mile nature walk will include stops at: record-setting trees, downtown wetlands, the Wiggly Bridge, Steedman Woods, riverside areas, and other hidden gems. Learn about York’s wildlife, trees, plants, and ancient past. This program is designed for adults and will involve 2 miles of moderate walking. FALL FOLIAGE & TREE IDENTIFICATION WALK Location: Meet at the top of Mount Agamenticus. This morning walk on Mount Agamenticus will focus on enjoying the fall foliage, identifying local trees, and learning about how and why fall foliage looks the way it does. The program will also touch upon native uses for these trees, from food to tools and forest ecology. This program is designed for adults and involves about 2 miles of moderate walking. ACORNS - A Celebration of Autumn’s Bounty Location: White Pine Programs, 330 Mountain Rd, Cape Neddick (1 mile east of Mt. Agamenticus). Come and check out our re-designed Acorn program – now family friendly! For centuries, the acorn has been a vital staple for Natives of our area. We’ll teach you how to identify different acorns, how to store, process, and cook with them. We’ll keep the kids busy with fun games and activities. And you’ll get to sample acorn treats!! WOODLAND NEIGHBORS: A Family Wildlife Program Location: White Pine Programs, 330 Mountain Rd, Cape Neddick Get excited about wildlife! This kid-friendly program will show you how to find animal tracks and sign, teach families nature awareness games, and send the kids home with their own animal track cast! We’ll learn how to move like our wild animal neighbors and go on a wildlife scavenger hunt. All ages welcome! Dress to be outdoors! FALL SURVIVAL SHELTER CAMPOUT Location: White Pine Programs, 330 Mountain Rd, Cape Neddick Are you or your kids prepared to spend a night outdoors with nothing but the clothes on your back? Did you know that most wilderness tragedies are a result of exposure to the elements? If you spend time outdoors, you owe it to yourself (and your loved ones) to take this workshop. Our experienced staff will help YOU design, build, and sleep in a shelter constructed of natural materials. Families welcome (ages 8 and up with an adult)! Pack a lunch and bring water for Saturday. SEABIRDS OF THE MAINE COAST Location: Meets at the public parking lot next to the Ogunquit Cumberland Farms on Route 1 in Ogunquit. Winter Birding at it’s best! The rocky coasts and salt marshes of Southern Maine provide excellent habitat and a scenic backdrop for a variety of hearty birds including; eiders, harlequin ducks, loons, pintails, scoters, murres, buffleheads, and more! This afternoon tour of hot birding spots is a great way to beat the winter blues. Led by veteran birder Dan Gardoqui. Dress warmly, wear a windbreaker, and bring binoculars if you have them.
